Mandatory disclaimer: Fire pits generate a lot of heat in all

a result of the improper installation and/or use of the fire pit. Check
with ur insurance company for their policy on the matter. Also check with
ur city’s building inspection department for their take on the matter;
they may have a by-law.

Fire pits generate a lot of radiant heat downwards. That heat will
penetrate most materials like metals & stone. To stop the heat, you need a
thermal break. Although there are space-age materials that would do the
job, most are not available to consumers. The cheapest material, however,
is free-flowing air.

Install a base of non-burning material on the wood to prevent small embers
from setting the deck on fire. Six inches above that, install a metal plate
1/8” thick using non-metallic, fireproof feet like cinder blocks (with
holes horizontal). Install ur fire pit on the metal plate. As the heat
radiates downwards, the plate will partially reflect the heat & absorb the
rest. The air below the plate will heat from its proximity to the hot metal
& will rise, being replaced by cooler air. The base may get slightly warm,
but it will not get hot.

I am not 100% sure but I think that is illegal . I don`t think

that is a good idea even with a fireproof barrier. Stop at your local fire

A neat modern look would be do get a neat steel mat cut at your
Fluffy-kun
local steel shop. If the pit is round, then cut it round, square/square.

safety. You should also do the following: place a fireproof mat

underneath the fire pit.they can be bought usually at hardware supplies &

places like Home Depot & are available in a mulititude of sizes to fit ur
needs. Over the top of this, I would place fire bricks..these are fire &
heat resistant bricks & are what usually line the insides of professional
open wood fire pits. Use enough to leave a 2-3' radius around ur steel
fire pit. Then, over those bricks, place ur steel fire pit. Hopefully,
this will be sufficient. (P.S. - I would also check back with the people
at the store where you bought this item.they should know what you need to
do!)

I would suggest one of two options. You could get one of those
Dancey Pants
fireproof pads like they used to use under an indoor wood burning stove. (
